I read this devotion today. Please enjoy…
God does not promise to give us everything we think is good, but he will not withhold what is permanently good. He will give us the means to walk along his paths, but we must do the walking. When we obey him, he will not hold anything back that will help us serve him.
Patience is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). It is something we all need as Christ followers to be truly effective for Christ.
At times in my life I have felt like things are moving too slowly and I have been impatient. I have wanted the next things now.
In times like this I remember I am in good company. As the picture says Joseph, Abraham, Moses and Jesus all waited.
If you feel like things are moving too slowly. Hang in there and be patient.
Psalms 63:6 says, “I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.”
For many years I did not sleep well. I would lay awake at night and stare at the roof. Sometimes I was thinking about things and others times I was not tired.
In these times I learned to talk to God and meditate on Him, rather than think about things that don’t matter now.
Often I would get up and sit in a comfy chair and pray for an hour or so. At other times I would go outside and look at the stars and pray.
Thinking about God and praying in those times helped. It helped me to focus on the eternal rather than the here and now.
Meditating on the Shepherd helped more than counting sheep.
I read this quick devotion today. It has a important reminder from the life of King David…
“Then I will sing praises to your name forever as I fulfill my vows each day.” (Psalms 61:8 NLT)
David made a vow to praise God each day. David continually praised God through both the good and difficult times of his life.
Do you find something to praise God for each day? As you do, you will find your heart elevated from daily distractions to lasting confidence.
One of the things I love about being a Christ follower is that we have a map and guide.
The Bible is the map that gives us direction for our lives. The Holy Spirit is our guide who is our constant companion to keep us on track.
If we ever need direction we can read the Map with the Guide’s help. Or we can pray and ask our Guide to help us.
Two verses to meditate on today:
Psalms 199:105 – “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
John 14:26 – “But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”
I have uploaded my Christmas message (text only) to my website. It is titled, “Three reasons why Jesus was born at Christmas”.
It looks at three reasons why Jesus came to us and was born into our world at Christmas.
You can find it here – http://www.passionaustralia.org/Jesusandchristmas.html
I have added a new sermon (text only) to my main website today. It is called, “Living as children of light” and is based on Ephesians 4:17-32.

The Bible says in Psalms 33:11 “But the LORD’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.”
I love that the Lord’s plans stand firm forever. I love that this means that I can trust Him completely to finish what He starts.
God is not like a person whose mind is changed back and forward like a boat on the ocean. He is rock solid in His will.
At times we can be frustrated with others who are changeable and don’t do what they say. We can even feel this way about ourselves at times.
But God is not like that. “His intentions can never be shaken”. This is why I trust Him as I do.
In a number of places in the Book of John, Jesus tells His disciples about things that show the world they are His followers.
In today’s post I want to share three.
1. Your love for one another
John 13:35 – Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples.”
2. You produce much fruit
John 15:8 – When you produce much fruit, you are My true disciples. This brings great glory to My Father.
3. Remain faithful to My teachings
John 8:31 – Jesus said to the people who believed in Him, “You are truly My disciples if you remain faithful to My teachings.
These three things show us what it takes to be considered a true disciple of Christ in His eyes. This is a good reminder for us and something to aim for.
If you are not sure which way to go, take some advice from King David. In Psalms 25:4 he prayed…
“Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow.”
The simplest way I know to find direction from God is to humble yourself before Him in prayer and ask.
If you need guidance today, why not follow David’s example.
