Psalm 86:5 says, “O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.”
God is always just a call away. He is ready to listen, forgive and help. Psalm 86:5 tells is that He full of unfailing love for those who call out to Him. We all need forgiveness and we all need unfailing love, so why not call out today?
Thank You Lord that You are so full of goodness and unfailing love. I really appreciate that You are always there ready to forgive and help me. Amen.
“The LORD directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?” Proverbs 20:24 NLT
I love that this verse says that the Lord orders our steps. It is nice to know the King of the universe has things under control.
The harder part is not knowing or understanding all the details of the plan along the way.
I think in our humanness we want to know every detail of the plan. We want to know the what, when, why and how.
But being a Jesus follower is all about trusting where He is leading us and that His plan is good.
Is is like the fishermen by the lake or the tax collector at his table, they just dropped everything to follow Jesus.
Following Jesus is about trusting Jesus. And knowing that while we don’t have all the details, we know that He has.
A simple reminder from Proverbs 3:27-28 about helping others…
“Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them. If you can help your neighbor now, don’t say, “Come back tomorrow, and then I’ll help you.””
It reminds us to help now if we can. It encourages us not to delay if we can help today. It encourages us not to put things off.
I wonder if there is someone I can help today? Who are the people around me that might need help?
As Proverbs says, “Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it is in you power to help them”.
How about you? Is there anyone you can help today?
I read 1 John 2 as a part of my devotions this morning. It is amazing how sometimes so much can be packed into two verses.
“But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.” 1 John 2:5-6 NLT
Two very important truths jumped out at me as I read these verses.
1. Obeying God’s Word shows how completely we love Him.
2. Those who say they live in God should live like Jesus did.
Obedience to God’s Word and living like Jesus. If we all did this, the world would be a much better place to live.
Let us all purpose in our hearts to love God and live in Him by doing these two things from 1 John 2 today.
I have added a new podcast today. It is an expanded version of the post I did titled, “Continue on”. In in I share six verses that will help us to continue on strongly in our faith in Christ.
You can find it here.
I read this short devotion today and I thought I would share it. Please enjoy…
Give discernment to me, your servant; then I will understand your laws.” Psalms 119:125 NLT
The psalmist asked God for discernment. Faith comes alive when we apply Scripture to our daily tasks and concerns. We need discernment so we can understand, and we need the desire to apply Scripture where we need help. The Bible is like medicine-it goes to work only when we apply it to the affected areas. As you read the Bible, be alert for lessons, commands, or examples that you can put into practice.
I have added a new podcast titled, “You are my disciples”. You can find it here.
How differently would you live if you didn’t have to worry about the future? If you had money, food, housing, clothes and all your needs provided for, would you do things differently?
Would you launch out and start a new ministry? Would you live as a missionary in another place? Would you focus more on God and His mission for you? Would you start a shelter, a drop in centre, a church?
Let us have a look at Matthew 6:25-33…
““That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:25-34 NLT)
Now that you have that promise from God for provision, ask your self those questions again, but with God involved…
Dear God, I thank You that You have promised to provide for all my needs as I seek first Your Kingdom and its righteousness. I am sorry that at times I worry about the things of the world and do not trust You fully. What do You want me to do next? Where do You want me to go? What do You want me to be? Who do You want me to reach? Please speak to me and show me what I need to do. I ask in Jesus name, Amen.
It is important for us as Christ followers to continue on in our faith. We need to keep holding firm to the truth of what Christ has done, is doing and will do in the future.
Today I want to share six Scriptures that will help us continue to be strong in our faith in Christ.
1. Continue to study the Bible – Joshua 1:8 – Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
2. Continue to seek the Lord – Psalm 105:4 Search for the LORD and for His strength; continually seek Him.
3. Continue to love one another – 1 John 4:7 Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.
4. Continue to follow Him – Colossians 2:6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow Him.
5. Continue to stand firm – Colossians 1:23a But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News.
6. Continue to pray – Ephesians 6:18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Continuing on in our faith is about setting a determined course and doing the things that will help us stay strong. So let us study the Word, seek the Lord, love one another, resolutely follow Jesus and stand firm today.
“And so the Lord says, “These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.”Isaiah 29:13 NLT
Going through the motions in worship is not what God wants. It is easy to worship on the outside only or do what we normally do by habit.
In one church we used to call it the Pentecostal sway. People had their hands in the air and swayed backwards and forwards to the music, but you could not tell what was going on inside. Were their hearts close to God or were they thinking about work?
Worship is one of the only things that will stretch from this life to the next. We won’t need to evangelise, serve the poor or pray for the sick. So let’s get our hearts right with God and honour Him with both our lips and hearts too. Worshipping almighty God is too important to go through the motions.
Dear God, I pray my heart will always be right with You. When I worship You I pray it will always be from a loving heart that is grateful for all You have done and all You will do in the future. I pray I will just never go through the motions. I ask in Jesus name, Amen
