““Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight. Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of sin.”” Romans 4:7-8 NLT
I remember the day I invited Jesus into my life. It was the day I confessed my sin to God for the first time. It was like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. All the wrong things I had done and all the things I should have done were cleared away. There was a sense of joy, peace and freedom I had never known before. It was a great day.
Heavenly Father I come to you today and confess my sins. Please forgive all the wrong things I have done and all the things I should have done. Thank You that Jesus died on the cross for my sin to take my punishment. I confess Jesus Lord and Saviour of my life. Help me to live for You. Amen.
“The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.” Proverbs 20:7 NLT
Walking with integrity is vital for those who bear the name of Christ. We must not only believe in Him as the Son of God and accept Him as Lord and Saviour, but we must also walk in His ways. Walking in His ways shows the world we belong to Jesus. It is also a model to those who follow us very closely – our children. Our kids see more of us than most people and they know if we are really following Jesus or not. Let us purpose in our hearts to walk in integrity and be a great example to our kids today. The Bible promises they will be blessed if we do.
Lord help me to truly follow You. Help me to walk in Your ways and live with integrity. I also pray Lord that my children will follow You and walk in Your ways too. I pray they will be blessed as they do. Amen.
“Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.” Galatians 6:4 NLT
God tells us that He prepared good works for us to do before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 2:10). When we focus on our own work, we are able to give it our best effort. We are also too busy to look around and compare ourselves to others and what they are doing. Focussing on our work helps us to be satisfied that we are playing our part in God’s unfolding plan for this world. Remember, we could have be born at any time in history, but God chose for us to live now to do certain things for Him. Let us all pay careful attention to them today.
Lord, help me to keep focussed on the work You have created me for and called me to do. I pray that I will not compare myself to others and the work they are doing. Help me to remain focussed on You and Your work for me. Help me to give it my absolute best. Amen.
“People may be right in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their heart.” Proverbs 21:2 NLT
It is easy to justify ourselves according to our own standards, but it is God’s standards that are the true measure. We can also justify ourselves by looking at the lives of others and comparing our life to theirs. The reality is though that we all need God to search our hearts. We need Him to measure our motives and desires. Like King David we need Him to pin point any ways that are wrong in His eyes.
Heavenly Father, please search my heart and show me any ways that are not right in Your eyes. I pray like King David that You would create in me a clean heart O God. Help me to not to be right in my own eyes, but to measure myself against Your ways. Amen.
“Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 NLT
Christ died to give us a new life. New life in the here and now and new life in eternity with Himself. Jesus also gave us a new vision for our time here. We no longer live for ourselves but for Jesus and His Kingdom. We died to our old lives and we live in Jesus and He lives in and through us.
Thank You Jesus that You died to give me new life. I pray that You will help me to leave my old life and dreams behind and live out Your goals and dreams for me. Help me to live in You and for Your Kingdom. Amen.
“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 NLT
The Apostle Paul who wrote this verse knew what it was to depend on Christ’s strength. In looking at Paul’s life we see that he was beaten numerous times, shipwrecked, stoned, lived with not much, rejected by his own people and suffered with an ongoing health condition. He was not someone who lived on a mountain in paradise and was immune to the struggles of life, he knew what it was to struggle. But in the midst of this he knew that God’s grace was sufficient to carry him through. He knew that he could continue on in Christ’s strength.
Thank You Lord for the example of Paul. Thank You that we can see that in the midst of his struggles he was able to remain faithful and draw on Christ’s strength. I pray Lord that when I go through hard times and struggles I will be able to remain faithful and draw on Christ’s strength too. Amen.
“But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.””
God is the only one who can search our hearts. He alone knows all that goes on in the world and why. He sees the external things and the internal motivations. That is why He is the one who can judge and reward according to what we deserve.
Create in me a pure heart O Lord. One that follows You and does things out of pure motives. I pray I can bring glory to You in the external world and also the internal world of my soul. Amen.
When I was at Bible College they were very big on memorising Scripture. For our New Testament class we had 50 we had to know.
Below is a list of 100 Bible verses you can memorise. They are from BibleGateway’s top 100 searches.
You can find it here.
“Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15
Christ died for us. He died in our place to pay the price for our sin. When we commit our lives to follow Him, we leave our old lives behind. Our goals, dreams and worldly desires are replaced by His goals for us. We live for Christ and His kingdom. The old life is gone and the new has come.
Thank You Jesus that You came and died on the cross for my sin. I ask for Your forgiveness for the wrong things I have done. Please come into my life as Lord and Saviour. Help me to leave my old life behind and live for Your Kingdom. Amen.
My reflections from my devotions today…
“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT
God comforts us in our times of suffering and distress. He is the source of all comfort. God comforts us to restore us, but He also comforts us so we can comfort others too. We pass on the help God has given us.
Dear God, thank You for all of Your help and comfort over the years. I pray that I can comfort others too. Use me to bring Your peace and comfort to others when they are in need. Amen.
