This Saturday has been reportedly been the day when the world comes to an end in many newspapers and online.
The question is will it end this Saturday? It may, but probably not.
Over the years many people have said the world would end on this or that date. Most of the dates chosen have by a combination of Bible prophecy, other ancient writings or calendars and signs from above. So far all have been shown to be wrong in the dates chosen.
The reality is this world will end one day. The Bible says, “But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment” (2 Peter 3:10).
This world will end. But it will happen at the time of God’s choosing. When Jesus was asked when this will be, He said no-one knows the date or time, only His Father in heaven knows (Matthew 24:36).
Two important truths for Christians is we must not let anyone deceive us or make us worried about these things. In Matthew 24:6-8 Jesus said these words…
Jesus answered: “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.”
As Christians we need to remember three things:
- The world will end at a time of God’s choosing.
- Wars and rumours of wars, earthquakes and famines are all part of the end time events.
- God is in control and we can trust in Him.
For non Christians it is important to find peace with God. The end of this world is coming and when it does we need to be trusting Jesus Christ for our salvation.
