“No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8 NLT)
This verse is at the end of a section titled, “The Lord case against Israel”. It seems the people had forgotten how much God had looked after them and blessed then. God asks what He has done that the people tired of him. As a way of showing gratitude the Lord tells them three things He required of them.
1. To do what is right – this means to love and worship God, to walk in His ways, and to live righteously. Living this way is a right response to who God is and for all God has done for us.
2. To love mercy – this means to show mercy to others like God has been merciful to us. We should also love when you see mercy in practice. When others demonstrate mercy it should bring joy to our hearts.
3. To walk humbly with God – this means to be in our right place with God. He is all powerful, all knowing and all present. His ways are above our ways. He is the creator of this world. We are not these things, so we need to walk accordingly.
So today let us show God how grateful for all He has done for us. Let us do what is right, love mercy and focus on living humbling as we walk with God.
