Praise, prayer and healing

James 5:13-16 NLT says, “Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. [14] Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. [15] Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. [16] Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”

In this passage it touches on some important things that can help us in our daily lives.

1. Prayer and praise –

We should pray to God in hard times to ask for help and praise Him with thanksgiving in the good times. The key for us as Christians is to be in contact with God always. As 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

2. The Elders can help

The Elders of the church should be called if we are sick to anoint us in oil. This is a symbolic thing of rubbing oil on someones forehead (usually) and praying for God to heal them. The Scripture says the Lord will make you well.

3. Confess and be healed

This passage also says to confess sins to each other. There is power in sharing your struggles with someone you trust. You can pray together and ask God to heal you of the issue. They can also check in with you and see how you are going regularly.

Prayer and praise brings good results. Healing if you are sick and healing if you are struggling with sin.
