I am up to Acts 10:1-8 for my devotions today. This is where it tells the story of Cornelius who was a Roman Officer who was a Captain in the Italian regiment.
The text tells us that he was a devout God fearing man, who prayed a lot and was very generous to the poor. So he was very religious and lived it out.
We see that an angel appears to him in a vision. Like most people who see an angel in the Bible they are afraid at first!
We see the angel told him to send for Peter who was in Joppa, but the thing that jumped out at me today was what the angel said to him in verse 4…
“Cornelius stared at him in terror. “What is it, sir?” he asked the angel. And the angel replied, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have been received by God as an offering!”
Imagine an angel appearing to you today and saying, “your prayer and offerings to the poor have been seen by God and accepted as an offering”!
Imagine the feeling. After of course you got over the fear of seeing an angel! It would be a great feeling. Knowing the God and creator of universe had heard your prayers and seen your gifts.
Well the reality is that it is as true for us today as it was for Cornelius some 2000 years ago. God does hear all of our prayers and see all of our gifts to the poor.
God has heard the nervous quick prayers before an event, the heartfelt prayers interceding for a loved one in pain, and the desperate prayers when you don’t know what to do next.
Likewise, He has seen the one of gifts to a mission that desperately needs money, the long term commitment of sponsoring children over many years, He has seen the anonymous food parcel dropped at someone’s house. He has seen them all.
I really want to encourage you today. Your prayers and gifts are making a real difference to this world we live in. And God sees and hears them all. They are a true offering to Him.
Be encouraged today,
